Layered Pet Portraits Workshop
In this workshop, students will learn how to create a realistic pet portrait with layered applique and fabric collage. Using an enlarged photo of their pet as a pattern, students will learn the basics of layering: how to construct the picture from background to foreground, how to create shadows and highlights by layering fabrics, and how to create realistic eyes, ears, mouths and noses. Don’t have a pet? Borrow a photo from a friend and make a pet portrait for them!

Easy Layered Quilt Blocks Workshop
In this full day workshop, students will learn how to make small, precise quilt block designs with layered applique, no piecing necessary! These mini quilt blocks are fast and easy to make, and they are perfect for adding an element of tradition to a pictorial art quilt. In class, students will practice creating blocks using fabric squares, paper templates and Quilter’s Grid interfacing. Students will also learn ways to incorporate these mini quilt blocks into a landscape art quilt for a subtle yet stunning effect!

Both of these new workshops will be taught for the first time for the Redwood Empire Quilter’s Guild, March 14th & 15th 2026 at the Humboldt Grange, 10:00 am- 4:00 pm both days. REQG Member Price $40 for one workshop or $60 for both. For sign up information, please visit https://reqg.com/lectures-and-workshops/
