Sumeg Village
“Sumeg Village” is based on a photo I took of the Yurok village of Sumeg in Sue-meg State Park,
Northern California. Sumeg is a historically accurate recreated village that is used for dances
and cultural activities. The beadwork on the borders of the quilt consists of red abalone shells
and pieces, denatalium shell, pine nuts and glass and shell beads. These materials are often
used in Yurok jewelry and dance regalia.
